How Do I Prepare Beds and Bedroom Sets for LTL Shipping?

Unless you are shipping a full truckload of beds, your shipment will utilize LTL (less-than-truckload) freight services. You save money with LTL shipping because your shipment shares the truck with freight from other shippers. It’s important that your cargo be packaged so it will not be damaged in transit and will not present a danger to other shipments on the truck. Mattresses should first be wrapped in plastic and taped so there are no places where dirt or moisture can get in. A variety of mattress bags are available online and in retail stores. They are perfect for the job. Place the bagged or wrapped mattress in a cardboard box and seal the box. Disassemble the bed frame and place fasteners in a sealed bag. Wrap wood frames in a blanket or bubble wrap. Do not place packing tape on the wood to prevent damage. Box all small wood parts after wrapping in a protective layer. Cover the bed frame with a blanket or packaging as well to prevent scratching. We recommend extra covering, such as cardboard (a cardboard box is best). Inexpensive bedroom furniture can be bubble-wrapped, then blanketed. Remove objects from drawers and box separately. All elements need to be strapped to a pallet and must not extend beyond the perimeter of the pallet. Antiques or more expensive furniture should be crated for optimal protection.

What Is the NMFC Freight Class for Beds and Bedroom Suites?
