Types of Freight Claims with North Park Transportation
If you use North Park Transportation to send something, you want it to arrive at the intended destination safely and punctually. However, sometimes unforeseen circumstances may occur, and you might need to file a claim.
A claim is a way to request a refund if your shipment is lost, damaged, or delayed.
The most frequent type of claim is a “damage claim,” which is filed when your items arrive broken or not in the expected condition. To file this type of claim, examine your items immediately and take photographs of any damage while the driver is there.
If your package doesn’t arrive, you can file a “loss claim.” Alternatively, if some of your items are missing, you can file a “shortage claim.”
A “service failure claim” can be filed if your shipment is late, and you paid for a guaranteed or expedited service.
When filing a claim, it’s essential to act promptly and maintain accurate records. Take pictures, retain your shipping documents, and inform North Park Transportation immediately. Proactively taking this step can help safeguard you in case of any problem.
What to do when freight damage is found
Remain Calm and Document Everything
Thoroughly inspect the integrity of the external packaging
If external packaging, shrink wrap etc. is not intact, record any damages on the Bill of Lading (BOL) or Proof of Delivery Receipt (POD).
Take photographs of any external packaging damage and product damage.
Contact North Park Transportation immediately to report damages (not your third-party logistics service provider).
Don’t throw anything away. If North Park Transportation inspects the product, they will use this to determine if the damage to the product is consistent with damage to containers.
Note: For concealed damage, most carriers have a 5-day deadline from the delivery date to file any damage claims. If you find damages after the delivery of your product, follow the same protocol above within those 5 days.
