When they said everything’s bigger in Texas, the Republic of Texas Biker Rally (R.O.T. Biker Rally®) certainly was no exception to the rule. The ROT® Rally currently stands as the largest motorcycle rally in Texas and the largest turnstile rally in the United States. Other events such as Sturgis or Daytona Bike Week draw in a larger crowd but are not considered to be a ticketed event.
A relatively new rally event, ROT® was first inaugurated in 1995 and will be celebrating its 23rd anniversary at this year’s rally. A majority of attendees tend to arrive on Harley’s, though all brands of bikes are welcome. Some people will even arrive in motor homes and stay on site at the Travis County Expo Center, located at the east edge of Austin.
The rally is a 4-day event running from Thursday thru Sunday and is considered one of the largest annual tourist events in the Central Texas region. The rally brings in an annual economic impact of $30-35 million each year. How’s that for big! City officials have estimated that around 35,000 paying customers make it to the event grounds. Likewise, as many as 200,000 spectators make it to the annual Friday night street party downtown.
Entertaining for the Masses
There’s never a dull moment at ROT® Rally as Austin is chock full of entertainment. Attendees have their work cut out for them if they wish to experience all that ROT® has to offer. With attractions like motorcycle stunt shows, celebrity bike builders, stage acts and 30 bands across 3 stages—there’s a little bit of something for everyone.
To kick off the first night of the rally, head to the parade and downtown party held on June 9th. By closing off 54 square blocks of the downtown area, there’s endless room for fun. The Austin Police Department escorts the 11-mile parade which is staged at 7:00 p.m. and leaves promptly at 7:45 p.m. from the Rally grounds. The parade will end at the capitol building on Congress Avenue where thousands of spectators wait for the arrival of bikers and the initiation of the ROT® Congress Party. Over 200,000 people pack into the streets of downtown Austin to party biker style. It’s the largest biker party you’ll experience in any downtown district of any city and it’s not to be missed!
New to this year’s ROT® Rally Parade on Saturday June 9 is a motorcycle jump for the first time ever on the Congress Ave. bridge. Likewise, the nightly concert will be held in the Austin American Statesman Parking lot. The admission is free and all you need to bring are some things to watch the concert, such as blankets, folding chairs, and a camera. Motorcyclists wanting to participate should gather at the Travis County Expo Center at 7 p.m. at gate 3. Bikes will leave the expo at 7:45 and the music starts right after bikes finish parking. Expect your night of fun to run from 7 p.m. to about half past midnight.
What’s a Texas motorcycle rally without some southern cuisine? ROT® Rally Food Courts provide rally goers with delicious options from some of the tastiest food trucks in Austin. The food trucks will be located at the Main Stage Amphitheater and on the parade route near the RV Camping lots. There will be a host of new vendors as well as some of everyone’s favorites. With options ranging from Tex-Mex to BBQ to Cajun, there’s a host of flavor for anyone looking for a bite to eat.
